SCS Library Research Databases  

Login information for currently enrolled students and current Faculty & Staff is available in both libraries as well as via email (request database logins by email).

World Book Online includes World Book Kids, World Book Students and World Book Advanced. Also includes Inventions and Discoveries. In addition, there is a Spanish language version of the World Book. This is great starting place for your research.

 

Science Resource Center is an in-depth, curriculum-oriented science database that provides a one-stop resource for all science-related research needs. This 24/7 resource reflects curriculum trends and focuses on key concepts taught in high school classrooms.

SIRS Discoverer is a general reference database designed for young researchers. Includes an encyclopedia (Compton's by Britannica's), a dictionary, a thesaurus, the 2008 World Almanac, Maps of the World, magazine articles by subject and WebFind, which has pre-screened kid-friendly websites for typical elementary and middle school report topics.

 

SIRS Knowledge Source Database SIRS Knowledge Source (SKS) provides a portal to relevant, credible information that supports research, study, and homework in key curricula subjects. SKS provides full-text, multimedia, and websites that are carefully selected from thousands of domestic and international sources. Special emphasis is placed on topics like social issues, science, history, U.S. government, arts, and humanities.

ProQuest Learning: Literature offers over 3,000 author pages giving access to biographies, original works, book reviews and criticism, and contextual multimedia to enhance the study of a particular text. Poetry resources include over 185,000 full-text poems, as well as The Poets on Screen collection, which offers contemporary poets giving readings of their favorite works. Drama students will find theater reviews, images from productions, and images and video for historical background or to inspire stage design or costume.

 

History Study Center offers schools valuable historical reference material that covers more than 2000 years of history – from ancient to modern, old world to new world. It's a unique reference tool that delivers a comprehensive collection of primary and secondary source material relevant to the study of history and social studies.

eLibrary Curriculum Edition contains millions of documents including current full-text magazine and newspaper articles, maps, photographs, TV and radio transcripts, government publications, and reference collections. Turn to eLibrary CE to investigate world events and people in today’s news, history, geography, social and debate issues, sciences, social sciences, and more.

SIRS Decades features nearly 5,000 hand-selected primary and secondary source articles highlighting key events, movements, people, and places in 20th-century America. Coverage includes documents, letters/memos, editorial cartoons, streaming video, websites, photographs, maps, advertisements, and published articles.
