3. Is there a birth date "cut-off" policy for entering Pre-kindergarten?
One of the factors used to determine eligibility for students entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade is the birth date of the child. Please refer to the following chart for the appropriate birth date deadline for your child. These dates are consistent with guidelines established by the state of Maryland. Our experience has shown that children in these age groups are generally more successful academically and socially when these guidelines are followed.
Grade 2006-2007 2007-2008
Pre-Kindergarten 3 3 by 9/1/06 3 by 9/1/07
Pre-Kindergarten 4 4 by 9/1/06 4 by 9/1/07
Kindergarten 5 by 9/1/06 5 by 9/1/07
First Grade 6 by 9/30/06 6 by 9/1/07

14. My child has an IEP in public school. Does SCS offer a similar service?
SCS offers a similar service through the Special Student Services Department called the Resource program. The Resource program involves students with mild learning problems or disabilities who have been formally identified, either by medical personnel or by psychological and educational professionals. Excluded from this program are students with mental retardation, autism, deafness, blindness and behavioral disorders, as well as developmental speech and language disorders.
The Principal and the Director of Special Student Services will review your child’s I.E.P., the psychological and educational reports, and any other special education information that you can provide to determine if the same services (noted on the I.E.P.) can be provided at SCS. SCS provides limited special education services to documented students of need in a pull-out, resource setting. Modifications and accommodations will be implemented to ensure your student’s success in the classroom under the supervision of special education staff.
